silverqueen: wandsout: #this really epitomizes a lot of what i love about this movie that other people seem to hate #that the summer we see is only viewed through the image of her tom creates and so the way we view her shifts as his feelings for her do is really smart and honest and insightful i think #and yeah what he does is a dick move but i’m not gonna pretend like i haven’t built someone up in my mind and then soured on them when they didn’t conform to my imagined version of them before #and i’ve been given the MPDG treatment by a guy before so like i understand both sides of this bullshit? Yep. The fact that the guy is a total dick… is kind of the point. Um, what?  Summer is the total dick in this movie.  I don’t know anyone who saw this movie that didn’t come out furious with her.  “Oh, hee hee, love’s not real, it’s a fairy tale!”  “Let me just rip out your soul first and then go discover that it’s real with someone else.”

Good article, especially all the references in movies to insults about characters not being able to drive.  I never even noticed that before.  I think it is because movies are made in L.A. where the public transportation is still sub-par.  The part about 500 Days of Summer being originally set in San Francisco makes a WHOLE lot of sense.  I couldn’t be sure exactly where they were for most of that movie!
