French lawmakers have legalized same-sex marriage after months of bruising debate and street protests that brought hundreds of thousands to Paris.

Senators Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Donnelly, who both hail from deeply red states, announced their support this week for marriage equality. If these two freshman senators from North Dakota and Indiana can stand on the right side of history, so can the few remaining Democratic hold outs in the Senate.
We are now down to the final four Democrats in the Senate who are standing on the wrong side of history on marriage equality: Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Tim Johnson of South Dakota, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, and Mark Pryor of Arkansas. They need to hear from us now.

Donald Verrilli Jr., the U.S. solicitor general arguing on the side of same-sex marriage, told the justices, “There is a cost to waiting.” He recalled that the argument by opponents of interracial marriage in Loving v. The American Academy of Pediatrics last week announced its support for same-sex marriage, citing evidence that children of gays and lesbians do better when the couples marry.

Get down here and flag down a police car or something.” By nature Danny is a remarkably calm person, so when I felt his heart pounding through the phone line, I knew I had to run.
When I got to the A/C/E subway exit on Eighth Avenue, Danny was still there, waiting for help to arrive. The baby, who had been left on the ground in a corner behind the turnstiles, was light-brown skinned and quiet, probably about a day old, wrapped in an oversize black sweatshirt…”
This is an amazing story.
